National Chiayi University held the "Sustainability X ​Interdisciplinary" USR International Forum and ​Achievement Exhibition, showcasing its commitment to ​University Social Responsibility (USR) and the UN ​Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event ​featured interactive booths and DIY experiences, ​promoting public engagement.

It also invited Associate Professor Miyuki YOSHIKAWA from Okayama ​University to share insights on SDG education and exchange ideas ​with NCYU leaders. The PESA conference, a key platform for the international ​philosophy of education, attracted scholars and graduate ​students from over 20 countries. Professor Ruyu Hung's ​presentation, "Mapping Ecopedagogy: How Can We Imagine an ​Education for cobeings?" received widespread acclaim for ​addressing human-nature relations amid global environmental ​crises.

Supported by the Higher Education Sprout Project and NSC ​funding, three NCYU graduate students attended this ​prestigious event. Through these resources, NCYU continues ​promoting internationalization, encouraging participation in ​high-level academic activities, showcasing Taiwan's education ​research, and enhancing its global academic reputation.

Under the Higher Education Sprout Project, National Chiayi ​University launched the "Chiayi Tour" Wood City Chiayi course, ​integrating local features with innovative teaching. The program ​guided students to explore Chiayi's forestry culture, historical ​landmarks, and natural resource management, showcasing ​advancements in teaching excellence. Many participants noted ​that the course enhanced their understanding of Chiayi's ​humanities, history, industries, and ecology.

Chiayi Tour: Cross-Disciplinary Experience in the Smart ​Machinery Industry

Hands-on experience with Musical ​Instrument Performance

Under the Higher Education Sprout Project, NCYU launched the "Chiayi ​Tour: Cross-Disciplinary Experience in the Smart Machinery Industry" ​course. Aligning with SDG goals of "Industry, Innovation, and ​Infrastructure" and "Sustainable Cities and Communities," the course ​introduced students to Chiayi's innovative machinery industry and ​economic development, fostering interdisciplinary learning.

It explored why companies establish roots in ​Chiayi and how local industries integrate economics ​and culture to support families and talent ​development. Students experienced innovative ​technologies and value creation in the machinery ​industry. This program promotes the preservation ​and advancement of local industry and achieves the ​program's goal of educational innovation.

NCYU leverages faculty and student expertise in ​implementing the "Health Co-Creation and ​Aromatic Practices" project in the Dapu ​Community. Faculty and students engage with ​residents to understand their concerns about ​black flies, design control courses, and conduct ​outreach to improve living conditions.

The program also integrated essential oil extraction techniques ​through lectures, field observations, and hands-on workshops, ​enabling participants to apply knowledge of forestry resources and ​essential oil preparation. Since 2018, NCYU has encouraged students to leverage their expertise and club activities to engage ​with long-term care centers in the Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan regions. Through interactions, students learn ​how to connect with seniors, engage in meaningful conversations, and recognize the societal needs and ​value of their skills.

  • "Life Story Writing": Created unique life storybooks for seniors, hosting 17 ​sessions and serving over 500 seniors.
  • "Intergenerational Learning and Active Living": Used interactive exchanges, ​language games, and AI technology to stimulate cognitive function in ​seniors. A Dapu, Chiayi County camp enhanced interaction between local ​seniors and children.
  • "Student Club-Led Initiatives": From 2023 to 2024, 14 sessions were held, ​involving 89 student participants and serving 220 community seniors.

NCYU, in partnership with the Chiayi County Government, ​organized the "Pest Management Project" exhibition on ​agricultural pests and eco-friendly control methods. From ​November 5, 2024, to September 16, 2025, the exhibition ​showcases common agrarian pests in the Chiayi region and ​environmentally friendly solutions like pheromones and light ​traps.

Supported by the Higher Education Sprout Project, ​the initiative includes an on-site exhibition and 40 ​educational activities to promote eco-friendly pest ​control and reduce pesticide impact on humans and ​the environment. Highlights include insect ​workshops, DIY classes, and plant diagnostics. The ​program invites public participation in fostering ​sustainable practices.

As part of the "Pest Management Project—Agricultural Pest ​and Eco-Friendly Control Methods Exhibition," National Chiayi ​University held a Parent-Child Insect Workshop on November ​30, 2024. Over two three-hour sessions, teachers engaged ​children in engaging explanations about the morphology and ​ecology of stag beetles and rhinoceros beetles while the ​children observed and handled live insects.

With at least 36 families participating, attendees discovered ​various beetle species and worked together to paint custom ​beetle-shaped piggy banks, capturing the fun in group photos.

Recognizing the growing potential of generative AI ​technology in academic research, National Chiayi University ​hosted a hybrid workshop featuring online and in-person ​sessions to keep pace with technological advancements. The ​event attracted 45 faculty and students for the on-site ​workshop, with nearly 100 participants joining online, ​fostering an atmosphere of academic exchange and ​collaborative learning.

The workshop focused on the application of generative AI in ​academic research. Through detailed case studies and hands-​on demonstrations, participants explored how these tools ​enhance efficiency and quality in research writing, data ​analysis, and presentation creation, boosting the productivity ​and effectiveness of academic work for the university's faculty ​and students.

2024 University Affairs Research Promotion and ​Incentive Competition

In line with the university's long-term development goals ​and to strengthen its professional management capabilities, ​National Chiayi University actively promoted the University ​Affairs Research Promotion and Incentive Competition. A ​total of 11 proposals were submitted for evaluation, 4 of ​which were awarded Excellence Prizes, and 7 received Merit ​Prizes. Winners were granted NT$10,000 and NT$8,000, ​respectively.


Recognition and Award Presentation to Winning Units

All proposal reports and presentation files have been ​compiled and made available on the NCYU Research and ​Development Office website for reference by interested ​parties within and outside the university to facilitate resource ​sharing and knowledge dissemination.

National Chiayi University actively utilizes alumni resources ​through the "Alumni Mentorship - Industry Experts" series, ​offering students diverse career exploration and guidance. The ​program connects outstanding alumni with extensive industry ​experience, aligning with SDG Goal 4 ("Quality Education") and ​Goal 8 ("Decent Work and Economic Growth").


Alumni Mentorship - Industry Expert Talk: A ​Rookie's Survival in Landscape Architecture

In 2024, NCYU hosted 18 alum mentorship events, ​attracting 1,232 participants, including students and ​external attendees, with an average satisfaction score of 4.6. ​Each session provided students with opportunities to gain ​in-depth insights into various industries. By connecting with ​alums, students received practical experience and ​inspiration and expanded their international perspectives ​and career opportunities.
